The climbing wall at NCIC has never been busier. There is a weekly climbing club afterschool every Thursday from 3.15- 4.15, available to all years and has already had over 30 different pupils coming along since September. Climbing has joined the list of sports that will be on show at the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo and in the spirit of this we decided to run a speed climbing competition last Thursday with Andrew Corner in year 11 setting a new wall record of climbing the wall in just 6 seconds.
If you think you have a chance of beating this time, come down this Thursday to give it ago.
The school is also opening its wall on a Wednesday evening to members of the local community from 6-8pm for just £3 for juniors (under 18) or £5 for an adult. In addition, there is an advanced climbers club running on a Monday night from 6.30-8 for those who have had a range of previous climbing experience.
PE teacher Mr Haddock, has previously worked with Mountaineering Ireland and has climbed all over the world coaching young climbers, some who have gone onto compete at world cup events. Mr Haddock is keen to see as many new faces on the wall as possible so if you’re interested or want to find out more, get in touch with either Mr Wilkinson, Mr Haddock or Mrs McGarry in the school and they will happily give you more information on ways to get involved.
