Dear Parent / Guardian
North Coast Integrated College will open for pupils on Thursday 19th March.
We expect that the Education Authority will soon announce school closures across Northern Ireland in response to COVID-19.
If, as we expect schools are instructed to close for an extended period, then as a School we will need to make sure plans and resources are in place to enable our pupils to access materials online. To facilitate this, our teachers will be working on Wednesday to prepare materials and lessons for delivery through Show My Homework. It is crucial that all pupils can access Show My Homework. If your child does not have access to Show My Homework please contact Mrs Shaw by email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone the office.
School is closed for all pupils on Wednesday 18th March to allow staff to prepare a timetable and contact time for students who are completing exams. School is open on Thursday and Friday for Yr 12 and 14 exam pupils only. Teachers will be in contact with these pupils through Show My Homework to plan a timetable if that is required. The reduced number of pupils in school will allow a bespoke timetable for those students who need teacher contact time. These measures will also allow pupils to maintain social distancing by creating smaller classes and spreading classes between teachers.
• Children should be kept at home if they are unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature to avoid spreading infection to others.
• If staff, young people or children become unwell on a school or educational site with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature they will be sent home.
This is a very difficult situation for our community, but everyone’s health and wellbeing is of paramount concern. We have a duty of care towards pupils, their families, and our teaching and non-teaching staff. This decision is not taken lightly. If families would benefit from school meal provision continuing during this time, please contact the school directly and we will do everything we can to ensure meals are provided for those families who are in receipt of free school meals.
Please note that it is important that all of us observe social distancing which is the most effective way to contain and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This means that people should not gather in large groups, and should not see this as a holiday period. We all need to look out for each other and be careful especially with relatives and friends who may be at risk. As a school community we can all play our part in helping each other in the days and weeks ahead.
Thank you for your support and assistance.
