We hope that as this website continues to develop that it will become an increasingly valuable link between staff, pupils, parents and friends of the College. April saw the visit of the Formula Student group to NorthCoastIntegratedCollege. Avril, Justin and Roy from the University of Ulster based team showed the Year 10 pupils a presentation of how a team of university students had designed and constructed a racing car which was later test driven on a track. The pupils then had an opportunity to work in small groups on the ‘KNEX challenge’. This required each group to design and build a self-powered model racing car using KNEX model building kits. Once constructed these models were tested in a race between the teams, with a small prize at stake. Everyone involved appeared to enjoy the activities and credit must go the Formula Student team for delivering such an interactive programme. This was a fascinating insight into many roles behind the scenes at a major bank – including web design, human resources and economist. As a Maths teacher, Mrs Mulholland thought it was great to see the resources that they have created for primary and secondary schools, which support the Northern Ireland curriculum. The Money Talks series of resources would be most appropriate for the College. The day concluded with a tour of the Northern Bank call centre, based in Belfast.
